About Us

The Faculty of Science is located in Zonguldak, situated on the coast of Black Sea. The faculty was established in 1992 and has been offering courses at the main campus since 1993 with the Departments of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics. The Faculty of Science provides academic activities in two buildings of 14.700 m2 closed area, with 20 classrooms, 30 laboratories, 4 computer laboratories, 1 seminar room, a teleconference room and 59 faculty offices. Also, each building has a cafeteria.

Education

The Faculty of Science offers undergraduate students a four year education, two semesters per year. Also, there is a yearlong optional foreign language (English) class in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Molecular Biology and Genetics departments. During the regular eight semesters, students are required to take mandatory and elective courses with a total of 140 national credits, being equivalent to 240 ECTS credits. Undergraduate programs provide normal and evening schedule programs. In the 2024-2025 academic year, the faculty has 948 students.

Objectives of Undergraduate Programs:

To develop students who

Aims of the Graduate Programs

Our graduate programs intend to educate students who have basic and advanced knowledge on their area of specialty.

Research Fields

The major research areas pursued currently in our departments include:

    • Physics: General physics, theoretical and experimental solid state physics, cluster physics, high energy and plasma physics, theoretical and experimental nuclear physics and mathematical physics.
    • Mathematics: Applied mathematics, functional analysis and theory of functions, algebra and numbers theory, geometry and topology
    • Chemistry: Analytic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry and organic chemistry
    • Biology: Zoology, botanic, general biology, molecular biology and hydrobiology
